Book cover for Lift As You Climb by Vanley Bucknor

A story about where we come from, what we carry, and how we use our lives.

Lift As You Climb is a Jamaican-American memoir about mentorship, migration, discipline, public service, and legacy. Vanley Bucknor reflects on the moments that shaped his life: growing up in Jamaica, training first as an educator, arriving in the United States with little more than hope, building a career in information technology and federal service, and discovering that the deepest purpose of success is not status, but service.

The memoir moves through childhood, education, migration, professional growth, public service, family, mentorship, and legacy. It is both personal and universal — a thoughtful account of becoming and of the responsibility to help others rise.

“Success is not only about how far we climb. It is also about who we help along the way.”
